Sorry I've Been Away

I'm back from an extended stay at the beach and, while I was good about posting in the beginning, I got a little wrapped up in the sun, sand, and pool to keep up like I should have. But it's time to get down to business. Fall is here- well, at least the fashion's are- and there is a lot to talk about.

Leather is remaining a really strong trend and I am crazy about all the different ways, both elegant and sexy, that it is available. I definitely think you can never have too many leather jackets but I have struggled a little with the leather skirt thing. I always worry that they look either too sexy or too young on me. Then I saw this one by 3.1 Phillip Lim at Neiman's a few weeks ago. It comes in black but I really love this rich cognac color. It is so sophisticated and the length is appropriate but it is also really flattering. I'm picturing it with a white lace blouse and some wedge lace up booties. Or maybe a tank and cropped jacket in a color like bright green or deep orange. There are a lot of options but one thing is for sure- this is a season must-have for me.

My Obssession

I've expressed my love for all things Missoni on many occasions. And, now, Missoni is going to be the next big collaboration with Target (hitting stores Sept. 13). The best part is that the line looks awesome! Sometimes those collaborations leave me a little disappointed especially when I see them in person but, this... Oh My God. So now you know and you can line up early. I'll save a place in line for you- behind me, of course!

At the Beach

So I'm getting ready to wrap up week one of an extended stay at Rehoboth Beach. Oh my gosh... it is really easy to get laaaazzzzy here when it comes to what I'm wearing. This place is super casual and, since I'm not usually out of my bathing suit until 4 in the afternoon, it has been hard to motivate into anything with a sense of style. That said, here are my modified tips for looking good when you're at a place like this.

1. Embrace the style of the place you're in. Beach= baja. That doesn't have to mean the baja you find at the cheesy beach store on the boardwalk. You know, the kind that feels like it has sand fleas! I like this one from Textile by Elizabeth and James.

2. During the day, anything but flip flops is kind of impractical. Since you're in and out of sand and need to kick off your shoes as a moments notice, they make the best sense. But they don't have to be boring.

3. At night, don't go overboard. You'll attract the wrong attention when you stand out like a sore thumb. A simple sundress in jersey or, if it's cool, some featherweight denim and a tank top.

4. Beachy hair (bumble and bumble surf spray makes it look like you just came in from the beach when, in fact, you took the time to clean up), a little bit of eye makeup (just enough to make your eyes pop with that great tan).

5. Jewelry but not too much. Great earrings or a fun necklace or a couple of bracelets but no need to layer it on as much as you usually would.

Clashing Prints? Come On...

Check out these pictures about the "clashing prints" trend. Net-a-Porter is calling it a "fashion crush." Ummmm.... I don't think so. This is one of those unfortunate fashion moments that these ladies will look back on 20 years from now (maybe just 10!) and say, "Oh God. I don't know WHY my stylist let me wear that!" Rest assured- THIS stylist would have better taste.

And, p.s., I normally love what Margherita Missoni wears but I do not get this one at all.
